walking into her new class, keira was comfortable. she had always wanted to come to south korea, it seemed fun, colourful, exciting, fresh, updated and young. its only been a month since she had moved here all on her own, settled in her new apartment and enrolling in a new school full of strangers. because she was 18, it was more obvious that she was new to the school. enrolling an international school was the best choice for her though everyone could still tell that she was not korean, she was able to feel more at ease. This school included many koreans who came back from america, england or new zealand to study. she looked up to find her class number, slipped through the door and on her way to her desk she observed the surrounding classmates who were doing their own thing. some were sitting on tables in groups chatting loudly and laughing. others were sleeping with their face on their arms. a few were just looking out the window or reading books.
'ive got everything sorted out now' she thought as the bell rang, 'but now i need to find a job' sighing, she put dropped her bag on her table at the back of the class and sat down. looking around to see if the teacher arrived yet, she pulled out her notebook and started jotting down her to do list.
at the end of class, Ms Gemi, her admin teacher came and sat on the desk beside keira.
smiling the teacher asked, 'how have you been these days keira? is south korea being nice to you?'
'umm~ yes, thank you miss. ive already settled in the apartment and it feels like home now' looking up to smile back at the teacher, she slid the remaining text books into her bag.
'i was wondering though, have you found a job yet? the apartment can cost a lot plus you need to pay for bills and food~ also shopping are you planning are finding a job?'
'ive been thinking about working at the supermarket near my apartment, they are looking for people and i thought it wouldnt be a bad start, just to get some income to pay for the things i still need, but i dont know really...' keira shrugged and pouted as she replied the teacher.
'hmmm~ i think i know someone who need person like you. ive been watching you ever since your arrival at our school. you know, to see if you are settling in well with the students and all. also, if your behaviour is of normal standard.' after recieving a questioning look from keira, the teacher quickly added, '-what a teacher is required to do that is.'
pausing and thinking, she continued, 'youve been a very quiet but contributive student. you are well organised and have many great ideas. after your clean up duties i was very impressed, you clean the best out of the whole class, infact i believe the whole school!' laughing and then clearing her throat, 'my point is, is that i will help contact that person and tell them that they should definitely consider you, i heard that they were looking for someone who is good at cleaning, cooking, composed, communicative and hard working~' she counted each characteristic off with her fingers, 'you are very hard working, but what im most concerned about is if you can cook?' after pausing for a second she concluded, 'who cares~ you live by yourself for goodness sakes, plus youre a fast learner, so ill just contact him and give him your number and he will contact you later on. is that ok?' looking at her watch, she stood up and started walking towards the door, 'i have to go now~ but dont worry~ ill sort things out for you~' waving, she disappeared behind the door.

its been three days since Ms Gemi told her about the job, she didnt even know who she would be working for or what she would be doing, but she was just glad that she had another option rather than working in the supermarket. slumping into her couch she turned on the tv and switched to the music channel, its sunday and there was nothing else for her to do. she had finished cleaning up, tidying the apartment, cooking and eating. now it was time for her to rest and enjoy some korean music. listening to kpop was different, it was fun and lifting, even though she had only listened to it a few times through her classmates phone during recess. looking at the screen, the programme was showing a concert cut, there were tonnes of fans with blue lightsitcks and the singers looked so tiny it was hard to see who they were, but the song was very catchy. bobbing her head to the beat the camera slowly zoomed in to the group, the song was ending and the captions were about to reveal the title and the group. getting ready to move towards the tv to get a better look her phone rang. sighing and then rushing to the phone, keira heard a man's voice.
'hello, is this keira wang?' the anonymous man asked.
'umm...hello~ yes this is...'
'i am Hong Seung-Seong, the president of Cube ent.~ im calling you to talk about the job' the man responded.
what is Cube ent.? what job? she didnt think that the supermarket was called Cube plus she hadnt even talked to the supermarket about her position yet-
'miss gemi told me about you and because she is one of my close friends she insisted on me hiring you.' ah~ so it was THAT job, the man conitnued, 'i have thought about this very carefully and believe that you are what we need so please come to this address...'
after writing down the information keira cheerfully thanked the man and the conversation was over. relieved that she finally got a job but slightly disappointed she missed the group name she turned off the tv and got dressed. collecting a few of her most needed personal accessories, keira headed out the door to this address she was directed to go unprepared for what she was about to be hired for.
